Always Somewhere Else was the culmination of a three-month residency at L’oeil de poisson in Quebec City, PQ. Living and working in the wonderful Coopérative Méduse, I made use of the wood shop facilities to create this body of work with a focus on each containing simple, formal ‘actions’, such as spilling, dripping, leaning, residing and pushing. These ‘actions’ started to pile up on each other as they multiplied in the shop and, after a while, my mind became always fixated on the next component and never on the piece at hand. When installing in the gallery, this ‘Always Somewhere Else’ attitude extended beyond my process and into a more spatial preoccupation.
